COVID 19 unleashed an unprecedented level of uncertainty and disruption across NES. Both personally and professionally, each one of us faced unanticipated challenges for which we felt unprepared to manage. But, together, we did manage. Together, we safely shepherded our NES community through the worst of the struggle. I have been so inspired by the grace and grit each one of you demonstrated and very proud of the entire NES Team. TRINITAS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
NEW JERSEY
One of NES’ hardest hit Emergency Departments, Trinitas Regional Medical Center in New Jersey, overcame many challenges through the COVID-19 pandemic. In March, when the pandemic was just ramping up, Dr. John D’Angelo, Site Medical Director and his team were very proactive to get set up with outside testing for COVID-19 patients at Trinitas. Fast forward roughly 30 days later, and Trinitas celebrated the discharge of their 500th COVID recovered patient.
Trinitas Regional Medical Center ranks 4th in New Jersey for number of positive tested COVID-19 patients, and has the lowest Case Fatality Rate (CFR), 4.15%, of any of the top 4 counties most affected by COVID-19. Trinitas’ CFR is 3.45 % lower than their neighboring counties. As the pandemic is slowing down, and our Emergency Departments begin to re-open, Dr. D’Angelo has been instrumental in making sure the community of Elizabeth, NJ is aware that Trinitas RMC is fully operational and safe to return for care.

DAY KIMBALL HOSPITAL
CONNECTICUT
Day Kimball Hospital, in Putnam Connecticut has been one of NES’ communities and Emergency Departments that were not hard hit with COVID-19 patients. However, the team and leadership at Day Kimball have made every attempt to get ahead of the pandemic and be prepared for when and if a surge of patients may come to their facility. Dr. Steven Wexler was the very first in CT to set up outside testing tents in an effort to keep the ED within the facility clean.
As CMO for NES Health, Dr. Wexler has been leading the charge in his efforts to keep all NES Health Site Medical Directors connected, informed and safe though the challenges and changes affecting each community and ED. Dr. Wexler has truly delivered to all our clinical leaders the meaning of “Transforming Patient Care, Together” through his participation of NES’ daily COVID calls, and guidance to ensure every Emergency Department and SMD works with their community bring patients back into the Emergency Department.

SIERRA VIEW HOSPITAL
CALIFORNIA
Dr. Jonathan Woolery, Site Medical Director at Sierra View Hospital in California, was one of many of our clinical leaders to be the first in their community to set up outside COVID-19 testing tents. Dr. Woolery described the setup and procedures of Sierra Views testing tents via a detailed video of the site that he presented to his fellow NES leaders. Dr. Woolery took things one step further to stay ahead of a potential PPE shortage for his team. With a visit to the local Lowe’s, Dr. Woolery purchased bleach, spray bottles, paint suits and rain gear to use as water resistant gowns. For N95 equivalent masks, Dr. Woolery also purchased high particular filters and materials for masks to be made for his team in the ED.
Dr. Woolery left Lowes with all the gear he needed, and in return for their kindness and help with his shopping list, he treated the store employees to pizza!

PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center
ALASKA
Dr. Eppler, SMD at PeaceHealth in Ketchikan Alaska has been tasked with oversight of the area healthcare disaster response, and a new hospital isolation area of the ED (converted PACU), along with the COVID Drive through. PHK is a critical access hospital and the community there depends on this facility for care, but also to provide community leadership in times of crisis.
Dr. Eppler states, “Covid Unit and tent are huge community wins and staff morale boosters”. Dr. Eppler and team of NES providers have really stepped it up to cover shifts from those who can’t make it to the island due to travel. Under Dr. Eppler’s leadership, the community is calmly addressing this virus. As a result, PeaceHealth is looking to create the same process at their other facilities in the Pacific Northwest.

Howard Memorial Hospital
ARKANSAS
Dr. Gaddis at Howard Memorial Hospital has been the face of his community in response to COVID-19. From the beginning Dr. Gaddis and his team have been available via live Facebook chat for Q & A regarding COVID-19. Dr. Gaddis, like many of our other SMDs has also been part of local radio interview spots to address further questions surrounding safety and the preparedness of the hospital in caring for COVID-19 cases and keeping non COVID patients safe.
